Time to sum up the Dala Street Open race at Dala Järna Raceway!
Picture from Dala Järna by Lena Peres! 🙂
Of course we needed some candy for the coming race! 😉 Sofi is taking care of that problem!
Sofi’s nephews did go for a ride with me in the truck!
On Thursday afternoon we arrived to Dala Järna Raceway after the 10 minute drive from our friends Dan and Torstens place where we parked the rig after the Tierp race, huge thanks for that!
We went early to build our pit are and service / do changes on the Chevelle for the coming weekends Top Doorslammer exhibition race this weekend with the Chevelle at the race Dala Street Open, arranged by my home motor club SHRA Vansbro – Äppelbo, together with Big Wheels Malung and Borlänge Dragracing Klubb!
We were kind of the first team at the track for the weekend!
The crew had been working on the track all Thursday! And the race won’t start until Saturday! Track did look much better compared to 2023, and last year it was way better than what I assumed it would be! So I was looking forward to this weekend for sure.
After building our pit and unloading everything me, Sofi and Fredrik did have a great evening at Dala Järna Raceway with some pizza dinner, that’s the good part when being really close to civilization!
The Chevelle is ready to get some service and adjustments! Need to do some changes after the weekend at Tierp to fit this track conditions at Dala Järna!
Friday and service day at Dala Järna Raceway!
We started with a great warm morning after the rain during the night!
After breakfast we started to take the Chevelle apart to do some changes on the converter and transmission for Saturdays race at the Dala Street Open.
When working on the Lenco we had some issues that we solved thanks to Lasse Israelsson! Thanks for that and for letting us using your shop!
Dad arrived during the evening and we got some dinner together and decided that we will continue the work on the car during Saturday morning.
Saturday and time for some fun! My plan from the start was to make 2-3 rounds during Saturday and 2 on Sunday!
The news paper Falu Kuriren did have an article about the race!
Time for the first day of 2024’s Dala Street Open at Dala Järna Raceway!
We did work on getting ready for the first exhibition round at Dala Järna Raceway! I did have a plan of making 2-3 rounds and as it looked first one will be after 12:00 / lunch. But we did have some issues of course!… But we did sort them out after some work!
Ok, time to see if I can do a good combo with the data from 2023 together with the added power to 2024! It was a bit cold, but the sun was up on the sky and helped us heating up the track!
First round was a good shake down with a 4.33 @ 274 km/h! My plan was to repeat the first round from last year but now with more power added, which means I need to take out even more power!
And I succeeded with the mission, 4.33 to last year’s 4.34! But now with an even better 60ft!
In the first test round the track was much better than last year from the starting line to 330ft, still a bit loose from 330ft to 660ft! But I can see that we can go faster, but first we needed some lunch and service of the car!
Second round I added a bit too much power and found the limit on the track, and hit a shake!..
After that we found a rocker arm stud that broke when we checked over the valve train after the round! That’s why you ALWAYS check the motor after every round, no matter if the round was good or bad!
We missed the last round on Saturday due to the rocker arm stud that snapped off during service! Lucky us, that could have hurt the engine bad during the next pass! It was an exhaust rocker arm and you do not want to add fuel and boost to that situation!… That will end up with hydrolyzing and that will hurt parts! Wonder why I know? Well I have tested that!….
But we did solve that issue! Once again thanks to Lasse Israelsson for letting us use the shop one more time when we needed a drill press to get the broken stud out!
So when we were done early on Saturday we did enjoy a pretty early dinner at a sunny and nice Dala Järna Raceway! Instead of working on the race car!
Done for today but ready for tomorrow!
Good night sweetheart, it’s a new day tomorrow!
A cold Sunday morning!
The planned times for our exhibition rounds on Sunday was 11, 2 and 4! But I wasn’t sure the track would have enough temperature when it’s time for our first round at 11 due to the weather!
Shake in test round 3! I know how to take the car down on mid 4.30, but that’s not what I was here for! So I was trying a bit too much!…
Problem was that I need to take away so much power so the engine gets unhappy… I decided that we will go out for at least one more test round before the weekend is over! To see if we can produce some numbers or not.
The track also got tricky due to too much glue, it’s hard to get the right wheel speed and then keep it to be able to go down the track when it is like that.
Time for the last exhibition round here at Dala Street Open, and also the last round in 2024 for Sjödin Motorsport / ÅBM Racing!
It ended up with a shake. So that was it for 2024!
We did have a great time at Dala Street Open once again! And I can really tell it was appreciated by everyone that we came to do some exhibition rounds!
I want to say a huge thanks to all involved in the Dala Street Open crew that made the Dala Street Open race at Dala Järna Raceway possible in 2024!
I did this Top Doorslammer exhibition race this year again because I want to support my home motor club SHRA Vansbro – Äppelbo, that together with Big Wheels Malung and Borlänge Dragracing Klubb arrange this event at my home track Dala Järna Raceway!
I want to say a huge thanks to Dad and Sofi and a special thanks to Fredrik for helping out this weekend, with things he never done earlier!
Time for some ice cream after we were done packing up!
Good bye Dala Järna Raceway!
It’s not easy when you are missing people, especially people that are doing important things that makes all routines really simple to follow!
The weekend was kind of upside down for all of us but we did have a great time anyway, and that is pretty simple when you are around people with the same mindset and goal on the things you are doing! Just having some fun!
Thanks to Lasse for helping us out and letting us use his shop to fix some issues! Thanks to Cissi for helping out on Saturday!
Thanks to our partners that made this year possible for us to do! And for believing in me! All of you helped out and made the season end up really good after all!
4.33 at 274 km/h is pretty good anyway when you are making passes way powered down on an old airfield that’s not prepped for a car like this!
Also, thanks to all of you that came to the event! I can feel that you really appreciated that we came! And thanks for supporting us and buying a lot of shirts from us!
Stay tuned for more info, 2025 is just around the corner! 😉
